Ippodo Gokujyo Genmaicha is a premium green tea combined with brown rice to develop the harmony of bitterness, astringency, and a roasty aroma.
Genmaicha is a type of Japanese tea that consists of sencha green tea and genmai brown rice (also known as roasted rice). By adding genmai, it gives the tea a clearer aftertaste.
Because it is not fully made of green tea leaves, genmaicha has less caffeine than normal green tea, so it is easier for children, pregnant women, and the elderly to drink.
Trivia: some genmaicha teas including this product contains white roasted rice. Although it has a blander taste than brown genmai, it is said that white rice is used for decoration and/or food waste prevention.
It is recommended that you use boiled water (100℃), and brew it for 30 seconds. This temperature and brewing time allow you to fully enjoy the aroma of the genmaicha.
Normally, you will use 10g, or 2 tbsp of tea leaves with approximately 240 ml of hot water, but it is acceptable to adjust these quantities according to your preferences.
It is a perfect drink to go with washoku (Japanese cuisine), and even some Japanese snacks such as a kakinotane snack.
