The roots of Kanebo date back to 1887 when it started as a cotton trading and textile manufacturer known as the Tokyo Cotton Trading Company. Later in 1893 the firm changes its name to Kanegafuchi Spinning Company (Kanebo) and starts shifting its main business to the production of silk thread and fabric which later became the inspiration for Kanebo’s cosmetics business.
In 1936, Kanebo introduces Savon de Soie, a luxury soap formulated with silk oil extracts that quickly gained appeal among sophisticated women in Europe and the United States. Following the launch of Savon de Soie, the company gradually shifts from textile to cosmetics, launching a wide range of high quality creams, lotions, pomades, face powders, shampoos, and other beauty products.
In 2006, Kanebo Cosmetics was acquired by the Kao Corporation, a leading Japanese manufacturer of personal care and cosmetic products who is also the parent company of other popular brands such as Bioré, Curel, Sofina, Kate, and more.
Kanebo prides themselves on making cosmetics that are safer than other brands, while still creating products that reflect the latest beauty trends from Japan and overseas. One good example of this is that Kanebo develops innovative new products in collaboration with designers during each of the seasons. Whatever and whenever you purchase Kanebo’s products, you can rely on them for functionality and a cutting-edge design.
Kanebo are known for their best-selling Double Liner, an eyeliner series that has been a huge hit among Japanese consumers, beauty bloggers, and beauty magazines. You may also like their range of eye makeup cosmetics from eyebrow pencils to mascaras because of their strong resistance to water, sebum, and smudging as well as color variation. Try their products to obtain a cool and sharp tone and a sophisticated grown-up appearance. Other popular products other than the KATE series include the Allie coral reef-safe sunscreens, Suisai powder-type facial washes, and Freeplus sensitive skin-friendly face cleansers.
