This is 100g of dried Mekabu seaweed, a slimy sea vegetable, naturally grown and harvested from the coast around Ise island in Japan.

Mekabu, often called "Wakame root" (seaweed doesn't actually have a root system), is a flowering sprout of wakame kelp that grows on the base of the stem. This mekabu in this product is finely chopped, so it is easy to prepare.

It's packed with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, and is considered a superfood by many. It contains fucoidan, algin acid, iodine, calcium, vitamins A, C, E and K and much more.

Soak in warm to hot water for 10 minutes, drain, and soak in cold water for a further 5 minutes. Drain any excess water before eating.

Minced mekabu seaweed goes well with miso soup, natto (fermented soybean), and hiyayakko (chilled tofu). Its sticky liquid will transform your dishes in a major way. This mekabu goes particularly well with acidic foods, like vinegar, yuzu juice, lemon juice and similar seasonings.
