Marukyu Koyamaen's Wako is their highest grade of light matcha green tea, or "usucha". It features a rich, full-bodied matcha flavor with a mellow, less bitter tone enhanced by a pleasant underlying sweetness.
The name "Wako" was chosen for this tea by the former head priest of Japan's Yakushiji Temple, Hashimoto Gyoin, sometime before his death in 1978.
He derived the name from a phrase of Laozi's Tao Te Ching, meaning to be modest, and unobtrusive, softened and with a hidden light. That's the perfect name for this exceptional tea, which has a fresh, natural aroma and a refined, refreshing aftertaste that is mild, and full of class.
Marukyu Koyamaen have been producing matcha tea in Uji, Kyoto since 1704, and in their over 300 years of history they've developed an unrivaled selection of premium Japanese green tea.
If you love Japanese matcha, and would like to try something lighter, with less bitterness, this usucha light matcha green tea is ideal for you.
Put 2g of matcha powder into a suitable tea bowl. Pour 80 ml of 80 degree celsius water over the powder, and whisk with a chasen tea whisk until foamy.
