Based in the Fushimi district of Kyoto, traditional Japanese sake from Tsuki no Katsura - one of the oldest sake breweries in Kyoto, is something that fans of Japanese sake must experience. Tsuki no Katsura has used the same traditional methods of sake-making for 14 generations and counting to provide genuine and authentic Japanese sake.
While Tsuki no Katsura has created many traditional sake varieties, they have not shied away from those who are not fans of the classic taste. In order to appeal to a wide range of customers, they have put a modern spin on sake by releasing sweeter, lower alcohol-content varieties. This sake is a hybrid between Japanese sake and white wine.
Normally, junmai sake features a rich flavor of rice, but this product also combines a clean aftertaste and is light-bodied thanks to a sake rice called Gohyakumangoku rice. Houfukuzettou can be described as a Japanese sake halfway between traditional sake and white wine. It is also sweeter than traditional variations of sake. In short, this sake does not have as strong of a rice aroma or flavor as typical junmai sake.
This particular sake also has a lower alcohol content - almost half that of regular varieties of sake (most sake has around 15% ABV while this product has 8% ABV) making this sake a great choice for those who are new to the world of sake or like sweeter tasting alcohol. It is easy to drink, not too dry, and is refreshing.
It is clear that this junmai variety of Japanese sake is quite different from its traditional counterparts: its taste and look are somewhat of a hybrid between Japanese sake and white wine. Give it a try and explore its uniqueness with your own palate.
To enjoy the freshness of this sake to the fullest, it is recommended to chill this sake before serving.
