Yanagiya Cosmetics was founded in Tokyo in 1615 by a Chinese doctor who emigrated to Japan and served as the Shogun’s court physician.
They began by producing white face powder, rouge and a popular beard oil that became favorite souvenirs for people returning from the capital. In the late 1800s, they diversified into producing Japanese sake and soy sauce, and in the early 1900s with growing interest in western fashion, they started selling pomades and hair tonics.
Now their moisturizing apricot oils, perfumes, pomades and hair tonics are among their most popular products in Japan and abroad. Their apricot oils, in particular, are celebrated for their moisturizing quality and pleasant scent.
